Symbols in Disney Movies

Hello Lovelies,

First off I am SO sorry I didn’t end up posting another post yesterday. Work got kind of crazy and I ended up not having time to write it up. But let’s jump into today’s post!

So yesterday, I was reading a lovely post by the lovely Prinze Charming all about the relationships in a few Disney movies and how that can be applied to our relationships. It was really great and very true, I recommend everyone to go check it out! But that got me thinking more specifically about how there are specific things in the movies that are so full of symbolism. So I decided to create a list of my own items and what they actually mean. Am I absolutely correct in all these, not at all. Things like symbolism are open for individual interpretation. But I thought it’d be fun to share what I see in the movies, and I’d love to hear back what you guys have to say. I am obviously not going to be able to talk about every single Disney Princess, so this might be one of a few posts. This does not mean tomorrow’s post will be on this as well, I guess we’ll have to see how I’m feeling and go from there. But for now these are my thoughts:

Image  Glass Slipper: the notion of finding the right person & the determination to not settle for anything less than the perfect person for you

Image Fairy Godmother: Friends, social networks, anything/anyone you find comfort in, who support you

ImageMice: friends & support come in unexpected ways, shape & form (it could even be a pet!)

ImageTheir love: doesn’t matter where you come from, what you’ve been through, all your heart cares about is how you are as a person & that it is possible to have love at first sight (thank god!)

ImagePrince: fortune & title doesn’t make the man, personality does

Image Curfew: Everything has a time and place to happen

ImageMaleficent: there will always be people jealous of what you have, who will try to bring you down

ImageFairies: there will always be someone by your side whether you see them or not

100 Years: love takes time, it doesn’t happen over night, patience is key for a relationship

Image Sleeping: sometimes you need to escape a situation (or remove yourself from a situation) to really appreciate what you have

ImageSpinning Wheel: there will be temptations in life, be careful

ImageBeast: (obvious one) never judge someone by their appearance, there is always more than meets the eye, and everyone has a story

ImageRose: delicate subjects aren’t easy for everyone, most of the time they are hidden, as time passes sometimes you lose faith that things will change (the petals falling), but when someone opens up about it it’s a beautiful moment

ImagePeople turned into objects: your decisions don’t affect just you, but everyone around you too

ImageGaston: there will be people that don’t respect you & desire you for only superficial things, they will also try to destroy your happiness

Image Jasmine: just because you have everything material does not mean you’re happy

Image Aladdin: pretending to be someone you’re not will not get you true love, always be true to yourself

ImageAbu: there will always be something in your life that reminds you of who you truly are

ImageGenie: nothing, not even magic, can make someone truly love you (they often say “true love is the most powerful magic.”)

ImageCarpet: there will always be people/things supporting you, and if you’ll allow yourself you can go to places you’ve never imagined, take the leap

Image Ariel’s curiosity: looking outside your comfort zone may show you unexpected things including love, be willing to be open

ImageAriel’s dad: your parents will always try to protect you & prevent you from making mistakes, but regardless of what happens they will always love you

Image Ariel’s voice: there is something unique about every single person that others will desire & do anything they can to get it or bring you down

ImageAriel’s legs/fishtail: There will always be things about yourself you won’t like and wish you can change, you shouldn’t have to change for love, love yourself for exactly how you are

ImageAriel’s stupid agreement: sometimes you’re blinded by the things you think you really want but you always have to be careful, think before you act

ImageUrsula: again there will always be challenges thrown in your life, love isn’t easy, but if it’s worth it you’ll be willing to fight for it

ImageSacrificing herself: “love isn’t selfish”, when you really love someone you are willing to do absolutely anything for them, including sacrificing your own life for them, and you will always be willing to put them first. Also she fights for what is right and tries to break people’s stereotype of all white men are the same. fight for love.

ImageJohn Smith: even though he is from a different culture/country, he is willing to learn and accept Pocahontas as she is, he passes no judgement

ImageTribe: change can be frightening & you have an instrict to fight it and protect what you have, but if you take the time to learn about it you can embrace it, but there will always be people who refuse change

ImageColors of the Wind: nature is a beautiful thing that needs to be preserved & if you just let yourself go for a bit you can ravel in its beauty

Imagethe tree (shame on me for not remembering her name): elders may know best, but ultimately the best advice they can give you is listen to your heart

So these are just a few of the things I thought of. What do you guys think? What is your opinion on what I wrote??

Much love,

  1. Haha, Grandmother Willow never came quick to me either when my RA hosted a game show with everyone on our floor in the dorm to win a free pizza. Beautifully said! You nailed it! Everything is respectably written the way it should, and I don’t see anything you left out. The symbolism is all there, and you interpreted the movies with your heart! That made the biggest impact on your post. Thank you so much for being inspired by my article. This was a very intriguing post to share to your followers!

If anyone is interested, the article, “The Impact of Disney’s Love Stories on Modern Dating ,” can be found at . If you would like, you could take that link and link it to my name, “Prinze Charming,” so people on my blog can check out the pingbacks to visit yours. 😉
